EUROPEAN WRITERS’ PARLIAMENT (İstanbul 2010 Literature Project)This is a literature activity project to unite the chairpersons of literature organizations representing major European languages and cultures, valuable writers of European Literature and the representatives of Turkish literature associations. Within the scope of the project sessions will be held in Istanbul’s Congress centers. In these sessions topics like European Literature, European Culture, Literature Traditions, Function of Literature, Turkey’s Cultural Relations with Europe during her EU Membership Process, Istanbul as a Literature Center will be discussed.

With its important cultural legacy our country has been the plot of Iliad and Odyssey, two important legends, fundamental to the European Culture and Literature canon. Being a start point of history our land hosted civilizations, which set the milestones of world literature like the Ionians, Hittites, Sumerian, Phrygians, Romans and Ottomans. The objective of the project is to render our country into a center of attraction for the international literature arena. With the project, a stronger dialogue among the world and Turkish writers will be built. Improved opinion exchange and stronger intellectual relations will fortify the international cooperation. Furthermore, while awareness of Istanbul is improved, the city will be turned into an attraction point for the world’s literature circles and intellectuals.
