The 17th International Adana Golden Cocoon Film Festival will take place in the southern province of Adana between Sept. 20 and 26.

The festival was originally scheduled for June 7 to 13 but was postponed following the May 31 Gaza flotilla raid by Israel that killed nine aid activists in the Mediterranean and a terrorist rocket attack on the İskenderun Naval Base. At the time, Adana Deputy Mayor Mustafa Tuncel said, "We cannot have fun while people are crying."

The festival will bring the world's newest films to Adana over the course of the week.

In a written press release, the Golden Cocoon Press Center said that "during the week, more than 200 films will be shown in seven halls."

Three contests will be held as part of the festival, including the National Feature-length Film Contest, the National Student Films Contest and the Mediterranean Countries Short-films Contest.

Greek Director Theo Angelopoulos, meanwhile, will be the guest of honor at the festival.

During the festival, Angelopoulos's films will be shown while audience members will have a chance to speak with Angelopoulos during a special chat session.
